What happened to hostess pudding pies from the 80s
What was a Hostess Pudding Pie?
I started to think I had just made them up in my head but they did exist! One day I remembered something that was like a Hostess Fruit Pie but it was covered with a chocolate coating. And instead of being filled with fruit, they were filled with pudding.
I asked my friends and no one else seemed to remember it. So I did some searching and I found them!
When did Hostess pudding pies come out?
The Hostess Pudding Pie came out in 1986.
I even found a commercial to prove it!
This was a commercial for kids that would show during Saturday morning cartoons
Ralston-Purina, after acquiring the Continental Baking Company and the Hostess brand in 1984, decided to introduce more baked items like the Hostess Pudding Pies.
When did Hostess stop making pudding pies?
Sadly after one year in 1987.
The last promotion they did for Hostess Pudding Pies was weird. It was for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The Pudding Pies for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles version of the Hostess Pudding Pies had green coating on the outside that was supposed to be slime.
Soon after that, it was discontinued. I can't understand why? 🤣
Today's Alternative to the Hostess pudding pies
There is a company that still makes pudding pies called JJ's Bakery.

They don't have a chocolate coating on the crust and the company markets them more as a gourmet dessert. But it is the closest to the experience of the original you'll be able to find these days
